I went to your Lens Crafters, in Bolingbrook,Il. I needed to have an eye exam I was having problems with my eyes,I felt that I had a cateract developing in my left eye. I already had one removed from my right eye so I knew what the symptoms were. The eye doctor told me after waisting my whole day in the office, that I had no cateract in my eye - but I needed bi-focacls. He was the doctor so I thought he knew what he was talking about boy was I handed a line. Shortly after getting my glasses I was having problems so I went back to see him because I was not happy. He said that the cateract should not be a problem, I saw RED I wanted to beat the wholy tar out of him I said that in my exam that he was susposed to tell me about my cateract and not re-do my glasses but send me to a doctor to have my cateract looked at he said that since I was over 40 I needed bi-focals.

I was so ticked off I told him that he would put my prescripion back the way it was and he would give me a referal to the doctor of my choice he said what is his name I said right now I cannot recall his name at the moment in the mood I was in at that moment. He gave me what I asked for when I went to get my glasses the next time my husband told me not to get arrested because no one could come and bail me out, my only thought was that he better stay in his office or I will say that I think he either cheated on his exams or slept with his professers to get passed because he didn't know what he was doing.

I called his boss when she came back from vacation and it was my fault because I did need new glasses,my husband had his eyes tested the same day and also recieved glasses which were returned for full credit.

Simple fact - if you are old enough to have had cataract surgery, (unless you are an infant with congenital cataracts) then you are old enough to need bifocals. There's no shame involved - it's simply a physiological event. Your focusing lens in your eye is surrounded by sphincter muscles that flex the crystalline lens, fatten it to see up close, thinning it to see far away. Around age 40, the muscles get weak or the lens becomes stiffer (or both) and the amount that the lens no longer focuses is put in the lens as a bifocal. Most people get used to them in a few days, this is absolutely necessary for your brain to work with the new images it gets from the eyes.

It's not uncommon to have to wait years between cataract surgeries, as they won't do them until your vision degrades to about 20/50.

You probably would have gotten better customer service if you didn't go postal on them. Remember the adage about flies and honey.

Still, your best bet is to go to a local independent, locally owned Optician. They are far better trained that the "opticians" at Lenscrafters.

:roll Being an employee at an optometrist office I deal with this situation on a daily basis. People over age 40 don't want to get bifocals because they think it's a sign of old age.

People's eyes change that's just how it is.

If you deny your eyes the correct lenses you're only hurting yourself. You can do a pair of distance and a pair of reading, but it's pretty much the same thing, just two different pairs of glasses.

your old deal with it/youneed bifocals

and i am guessing the cataract didn't need to come out? other wise you probably would be waiting until after the cataract surgery to get your glasses?

and once again, MOST people will either need bifocal correction when they get old enough, OR two pairs, one for far distance and one for up close.

so yes, it sounds like you were not able to adapt to bifocals. that seems to be more of the underlying problem than the cataract.

As for the comment that John made my vision is getting worse trouble seeing at night and blurry vision, trouble seeing at night. I just got another eye exam a few days ago,and the doctor saw the cateract and told me that I DON.T need bi-focals and I will be getting 2 pair of glasses without bi-focals. So all of you who say that bi-focls are needed with age can keep their thoughts to themselves.

cataracts get progressively worse, but most good doctors won't take them out until they reach a certain stage. just because you had one cataract removed doesn't mean the other is ready to come out.

and if the cataract is very mild, it probably shouldn't come out and probably won't cause as big of a visual problem as you are describing.

what it sounds like is that this is your first pair of bifocals and that you are having difficulty adjusting to them. the fact is that as people get older, if they want to have good vision far and near, most people will need bifocal correction of some type. it all has to do with the flexibleness of the lens inside your eye. so either you need some type of bifocal, or a pair of single vision glasses for far away, and another for up close.

a bifocal is cheaper than two pairs, but for some people, it does take some time to get used to them.

so the dr. probably did tell you the relevant information.

When your as perfect as FACT then you can judge people on what they say and how they say it.

It's common sense that you must go to a doctor before being referred to a specialist. You might want to check with a grammar teacher as well Donna.

As for Len"s bright comment it is the doctor's fault for not telling me and my insurance I need to go to the eye doctor first and get a referal to go to a specilast, think before you comment on me.

what an *** you are. do some research.

we are born with cateracts. so blame god not the doc.

Cataracts can definitely cause vision issues as the lens inside your eye becomes cloudy, making it very hard to focus at both distance and near. Cataracts cannot be dealt with until they have developed to the point where they need to be removed.

Bifocals can help many people who are having problems with developing cataracts, but they are not for everyone. Some people have problems adjusting to them.

Luckily, Lenscrafters has a 30 day return policy for just such a situation. Not all optical retailers do.
